Welcome

Welcome to the Skatepark of Baltimore's official website thanks to Mission Media. We are a six-year-old local 501 c 3 non-profit organization dedicated to building a public destination skatepark in the City of Baltimore. We are a volunteer driven organization made up of skateboarders and skatepark supporters throughout Baltimore, Maryland and the US. Thanks for visiting. Please take some time to learn about our organization and find out how you can get involved in our work.

Six years ago, our grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Skatepark of Baltimore, was formed to facilitate the construction of a public concrete skatepark in Baltimore. I am happy to announce that we are significantly closer to that goal. We have secured our site through a partnership with the City, completed our park designs with community and youth input, and began securing fundraising commitments towards the cost of construction. We are approaching the last leg of our journey. We just entered a matching campaign with the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks in which there is now an agreement to match us at $75,000 for construction of the skatepark. We have until May 31, 2012 to raise $50,000 to receive the match and begin construction of the park in 2012. We need your help for our capital campaign for the construction of the park. Skatepark of Baltimore is an all-volunteer organization that relies on a variety of fundraising activities to realize our monetary goal. With the help from area foundations and donors like you throughout Maryland, we have raised $25,000 to date.

Skateboarding for Success

The Open Society Institute has selected Stephanie Murdock, President of the Skatepark of Baltimore, for a paid fellowship. For the next 18 months, Stephanie will launch an after-school program "Skateboarding for Success," which will engage the youth of Hampden in recreational and development activities after school at Roosevelt skatepark. The program will provide a safe place for youth to skateboard while learning important independent living skills and gaining leadership experience. These youth will participate in the design and fundraising for the Skatepark of Baltimore at Roosevelt Park. By partnering with local schools, the program will offer mentoring, lessons, and the motivation and skills necessary for the youth to graduate from high school. Congratulations Steph!
